Between the Stripes owner and founder Kieran Burke visited the Attic Youth House in Longford Town on Thursday evening (18/01/18) to hand over the proceeds raised from Between the Stripes Fantasy Football League. €200 was raised for the youth group was unbelievably receive absolutely zero government or state funding despite their wonderful work with teenagers and secondary school children in the County.

Just some of the incredible services the Attic House in Longford Town provide thanks to their heroic volunteers and staff include counselling, social events such as supervised teenage discos and their famous X-Factor competitions, extra-circular activities such as art groups and sporting activities such as football and basketball. These services not only encourage Longford’s youth to stay off the streets but give the youngsters a safe space to socialise, learn, develop and most importantly seek help and advice should it ever be required in any circumstance no matter how difficult.

Last year the group sadly suffered the tragic loss of one of its young members taken away far too early in life. However, despite the heartbreaking effect it had on the local community and its youth the Attic House were straight on the front-line to offer counselling to those who needed it…….This is the kind of organisations that deserve all the support in the world and the team at Between the Stripes hope the small sum of cash raised can help the Attic House on its way to whatever the next target may be.

A huge thank you to everyone who financially supported Between the Stripes Fantasy Football League. Many of you donated to the cause despite clearly stating you had no interest in entering a team and for that we are extremely grateful. Thank you yo the vast numbers of current and past League of Ireland players and coaches who entered our league also.

Finally, Between the Stripes can also announce we will be handing over a €70 donation to St.Christopher’s in Longford Town next week thanks to a small success via our weekly betting column of 2016. That brings the total raised for local charities by the Between the Stripes team to €270 since our foundation in January 2016. We hope to add to that figure in 2018 so keep an eye out for details of charity fundraisers by following us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat (BTS1924), while our hit League of Ireland podcast can be found on Itunes, Audioboom, Mixcloud, Pocketcasts and Podcast Republic, simply search for Between the Stripes LOI podcast on any of those platforms and don’t forget to hit the subscribe button and leave us a positive review.

Fenn exclusively reveals new signing, retirements and pre-season fixtures on Between the Stripes LOI podcast

Article by Kieran Burke – @KieranBTS.

Speaking exclusively earlier this evening to Between the Stripes LOI podcast, which returns to the airwaves tomorrow afternoon with tonight’s recorded New Years Special, Longford Town manager Neale Fenn gave a number of exclusives to our listeners.

With two pre-season friendlies already announced against Fenn’s former sides Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians, podcast co-host Kieran Burke put the question to Fenn regarding other upcoming opponents in the lead up to the new First Division season. Fenn revealed “De Town” will take on St.Patrick’s Athletic (A), Limerick FC, Newbridge Town and an American side from Philadelphia, who will also be facing the “Saints” during their time in Ireland. Times, dates and venues are still to be confirmed for these preparation matches but the visit of the Philadelphia outfit to City Calling Stadium is certainly an exciting novelty for Town fans to look forward to while a reunion with club legends Paul Perth and Sean Prunty will bring a feeling of nostalgia to Town supporters of a by-gone era as the duo are involved with Newbridge at present.

Moving on to talk about transfers and how the Longford squad was shaping up for 2018, Fenn broke the news out an imminent arrival from the non-leagues at LTFC while also confirming the status of five players from last seasons squad. To be announced by the club tomorrow is the signing of a striker from Dublin side Hardwick who play in the AUL league. While withholding the new attackers name, Between the Stripes believe the player in question to be Dean Byrne. Fenn commented that his new recruit had been scoring a lot of goals at AUL level in Dublin and would help strengthen his options up-front following the departure  of David O’Sullivan to Shelbourne.

Finally, in perhaps the most important announcement of all made exclusively by Fenn on Between the Stripes LOI podcast New Years Special, the Londoner confirmed the retirement of long-time servants Don Cowan and Kevin O’Connor in addition to the already known retirement of defender Noel Haverty. In more positive updates the former Dundalk striker announced exclusively that local talents Aodh Dervin and Tristan Noack Hoffman had both all but re-signed for Longford with the latter set to put pen-to-paper on a new deal tomorrow afternoon.

To hear Neale Fenn’s interview in full plus exclusive chats with Darren Meenan, James Doona, Dave Donnelly and Kevin Kiely subscribe to Between the Stripes LOI podcast on Itunes, Audioboom, Mixcloud, Pocketcasts and/or Podcast Republic now and never miss an episode. Tonights New Years Special will be uploaded tomorrow afternoon (Thursday) with links posted on Between the Stripes Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat accounts.

Episode 17 of Between the Stripes LOI podcast smashes listenership record!

Billed as Between the Stripes LOI podcasts biggest show ever, episode 17 certainly lived up to the hype as the #DecisionDay special smashed the shows listener-ship record. Over 800 people have so far tuned in to episode 17 which saw guests from all three sides in relegation pearl on the final day of the season appear.

Ger O’Brien (St.Pat’s assistant), Shane Morrison (Sligo fan) and Julian Canny (Galway fan) were all on hand to put forward their claims for survival while Chris Bennion (Drogheda goalkeeping coach) and Aidan Campbell (Finn Harps marketing and commercial director) also joined hosts Burke & Brier to discuss the impact relegation is likely to have at their respective clubs.

There was plenty of transfer stories to run the rule over, while the latest goings on at the FAI and Bray Wanderers respectively were strongly debated by the Longford duo.

With episode 18 being the final regular show of the year (there’s an Xmas special on the way folks) episode 17’s incredible figures could very well be instantly surpassed with what can only be described as a league winning line-up in the works. Keep an eye on Between the Stripes social media pages for details on the final show of the season which as ever will be uploaded at approximately 10PM on Wednesday via Audioboom, Itunes, Mixcloud, Pocketcasts and Podcast Republic.

Until then why not catch the record breaking episode 17 below via the Audioboom player:
