There were wins for both UCD and Cabinteely as Waterford FC crowned a very successful season for with 1-0 victory over Neale Fenn’s Longford Town. Elsewhere, there was a stalemate between Shelbourne and Wexford FC at Ferrycarrig Park.

Waterford FC came out on top in what was a very keenly contested clash against Longford Town at the RSC. Waterford, who had just been crowned as the First Division champions a week’s previous due to Cobh’s slip up at home to Cabinteely, were given a guard of honour by Longford Town as the Blues made their way onto the pitch.

In a quite stale game by all accounts, young Longford Town star Aodh Dervin has received plenty of praise from supporters of both sides and looks to have a bright future in the ‘Red and Black’. The deadlock was finally broken in the 81st minute by Waterford FC frontman David McDaid which sent the 2,547 celebratory crowd at the RSC into pandemonium.

UCD edged out fellow former promotion rivals Cobh Ramblers at the UCD Bowl with a 1-0 victory against Stephen Henderson’s men. Gary O’Neil slotted home from 12 yards out to give Collie O’Neill’s charges their first points over the “Rams” this season.

Kieran “Marty” Waters scored a hat-trick as Cabinteely strolled to a 6-2 victory over Athlone Town at Stradbrook. Joe Doyle and Ryan Swan completed the scoring for “Cabo” before former Longford Town man Stephen Walsh and Claudio Silva added two goals at the end in the 85th and 90th minute respectively. “Marty” Waters hat-trick now leaves him top of the First Division goalscoring charts with just one game to go in the season.

Finally, 6th met 7th at Ferrycarrig Park as Wexford and Shelbourne played out a 1-1 draw at Ferrycarrig Park. James Brown put “Shels” in the lead right on the stroke of half-time before The “Reds” were pegged back by Danny Doyle’s first goal of the season for Damian Locke’s men. The result pushes Wexford FC further away from basement club Athlone Town while it leaves “Shels” just behind Longford Town on goal difference.
